Injury forces Tommy Haas retirement

A shoulder injury prevents Tommy Haas from finishing his first-round Australian Open match with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Former world number two Tommy Haas was forced to withdraw midway through his first-round Australian Open clash with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez earlier today.

The German decided that he was unable to continue through the pain of a shoulder injury.

He retired while trailing his Spanish opponent by one set and 5-2 in the second.

The 30-year-old will now take on France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin for a place in the third round in Melbourne.
