Serena Williams targeting fast start against Maria Sharapova

Serena Williams believes that a rapid start will be key to the match when she takes on Maria Sharapova in the final of the Australian Open.

Serena Williams is targeting a fast start to the match when she plays Maria Sharapova in the final of the Australian Open.

The 33-year-old has beaten Sharapova in their last 15 meetings, which stretches back to 2005 and also includes two Grand Slam final victories in Melbourne and the French Open in 2013.

However, Williams has admitted that she is wary of being over confident for the match because of the Russian's ability.

"I think she's been a wonderful player in this era," Williams told reporters. "She's so consistent. She just always wants to get better.

"It's going to be important for me to get off to a good start, I think. With that being said, if not, I'm going to be ready to fight."

Williams will be aiming to win the 19th Grand Slam title of her career in the final later today.
