Li Jiao defeats Dutch compatriot Li Jie to take table tennis gold

Li Jiao has defeated fellow Netherlands competitor Li Jie to win gold in the women's singles table tennis at the European Games.

The 2012 Olympic quarter-finalist romped to a 4-0 victory at the Baku Sports Hall in a time of 33 minutes.

Jiao defeated Turkey's Melek Hu in the semi-finals to advance through, but the 26-year-old picked herself up to claim bronze by overcoming Eva Odorova of Russian Federation.

Gold and silver success for the Netherlands takes them up to 10 medals overall at these inaugural Games in Azerbaijan.
