England's Liam Pitchford pleased with historic table tennis bronze

Table tennis player Liam Pitchford has expressed his delight at having made Commonwealth Games history.

The 23-year-old from Chesterfield beat India's Sharath Kamal Achanta to take the bronze, making him the first English table tennis player to pick up a singles medal at the Games.

Pitchford told reporters: "I wanted to end the tournament on a positive note and to get a bronze medal in the singles is absolutely fantastic.

"The first time any table tennis player from England has ever done it so now I'm a part of history.

"My aim is to come back again in four years and get the gold, I will probably be at more of my peak and I'll be a lot better player then."

Pitchford helped his nation win silver in the men's team event earlier today.
