Jonathan Davies questions James Hook omission from Wales squad

Jonathan Davies suggests that James Hook should have been kept in the Wales squad ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

Former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davies has suggested that James Hook should not have been cut from the team's Rugby World Cup training squad.

The experienced back was among eight players who were released by coach Warren Gatland on Thursday.

Cardiff Blues fly-half Gareth Anscombe has been kept on as part of the squad, but Davies believes that Hook should have been preferred to the youngster.

"I don't think Anscombe has proven enough at that level," he told BBC Sport. "It will be a call for James [whether he continues his international career] because he knows that he's maybe not what they want to play in that structural game."

Wales continue their preparations for the Rugby World Cup on August 29 when they face Ireland in Dublin.
