The WRU reportedly considers plans to jointly fund the contracts of top Welsh stars.

The WRU is reportedly considering plans to jointly fund the contracts of top Welsh stars in order to keep talent at the Welsh regions.

A steady stream of Wales players has been making its way to France recently, with Mike Phillips, Gethin Jenkins and James Hook among those tempted by big money in the Top 14.

WRU bosses are now thinking of providing extra cash for dual contracts between the governing body and the regions, according to WalesOnline.

The WRU and the regions will wait on the findings of an investigation by Price Waterhouse Coopers into the finances of the Welsh game before making an announcement.

Welsh regions Cardiff Blues, Newport-Gwent Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets have recently been hit with a £3.5m salary cap for the coming season.
