Shaun Edwards says that Wales's potential tempted him to sign a new four-year deal with the team.

Shaun Edwards has revealed that Wales's potential displayed during the World Cup was a big part of his decision to sign a new contract as defence coach.

The 45-year-old signed a new four-year deal with Wales after leaving his position as head coach at London Wasps last month.

"Coming back off the Rugby World Cup you can see a lot of potential in the Wales team over the next few years and I want to be a part of that," Edwards said.

"Warren is obviously our boss and we have a pretty tight bunch of coaches underneath him.

"We're all loyal to our boss and hopefully we can guide those young players to be remembered as great Welsh internationals, not just as Welsh internationals."

Edwards has not yet ruled out an additional role with a regional side such as the Cardiff Blues, who have recently expressed their interest in working with the former rugby league player.

"I would have considered it but I've not seen any concrete offer, spoken to my representatives etcetera from Cardiff Blues," Edwards added.

"Obviously I know a lot of the lads already and certainly when the Cardiff Blues, particularly when they've got a full team out, as they proved on Friday night are a force to be reckoned with.

"It's something that I would consider, but also I would obviously consider staying in the English Premiership as well."

Wales's next international Test comes against Australia at the Millennium Stadium in December.
