Victor Matfield injury doubt for Springboks

Victor Matfield is a doubt for South Africa's World Cup opener against Wales on Sunday due to a hamstring strain.

Fellow second-row Bakkies Botha is also a concern for the defending champions.

"We're still rehabilitating it," said Matfield. "We'll have a look on Friday but we believe I'll be able to play.

"I don't know if [Botha] will be ready for Sunday but hopefully he'll be ready for next week.

"He's working very hard in the gym and I think they're making a call on him on Friday as well."

Matfield earned the Man of the Match award in the 2007 final victory against England.
