Schalk Brits: South Africa "respectful" of Scotland

Brits: South Africa "respectful" of Scotland

Schalk Brits has insisted that South Africa will be "respectful" of Scotland when the two sides meet at Newcastle next month.

The Springboks recovered from defeat to Japan in their opening match at the Rugby World Cup with victory over Samoa at Villa Park this evening, during which Brits scored his first international try after coming off the bench.

The 34-year-old told Sports Mole: "Of course we were under a lot of pressure this week, but arriving and seeing so many South Africans, there was one particular guy that ran about three miles with the bus, it gave me a sense of so much pride, and not to let down the supporters and my teammates.

"I do think we can win this group. Unfortunately we lost against Japan, that happened, we can't do anything about it. What we can do is win the next two games, first against Scotland and then the game after that against the USA, and then what happens happens.

"We must be respectful of Scotland, they played very well against Japan. It's going to be a tough game come Newcastle. I do think there will be a lot of South Africans [at the match against Scotland]. Rugby supporters are very respectful of each other. It's going to be great, I'm looking forward to the game."

Scotland are in action against the USA tomorrow.
