South Africa appoint Allister Coetzee

Former assistant Allister Coetzee takes on the role of head coach of the South Africa rugby union side.

Allister Coetzee has been named the new head coach of South Africa.

The 52-year-old, who was the assistant when the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup in 2007, has replaced Heyneke Meyer in the role.

Johann van Graan will take on the position of Coetzee's assistant, while Ian Schwartz has retained his team manager post.

Coetzee's first assignment will be three home Test matches against Ireland in June.
