South Africa call up Schalk Burger to replace the injured Francois Louw

Burger replaces injured Louw

Flanker Schalk Burger has been chosen as the replacement for the injured Francois Louw in South Africa's squad for the final two Rugby Championship Tests.

Louw, 29, was ruled out after suffering a pinched nerve in his neck and could be out for as long as two months.

Coach Heyneke Meyer has selected 31-year-old Burger, who plays in Japan for Suntory, in Louw's absence.

"Schalk's versatility helps as he can cover any position in the loose trio," Meyer told reporters.

"He is also very experienced, brings leadership qualities and has been with us so he will slot back in easily."

South Africa will face Australia on September 27 in Cape Town and New Zealand on October 4 in Johannesburg.
