Greig Laidlaw scores late penalty to help Scotland beat Italy

Scotland have ended their Six Nations campaign on a high thanks to a thrilling 29-27 victory against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico.

Tommaso Allan had booted the Azzurri ahead in a dramatic final 10 minutes, before Greig Laidlaw scored the decisive penalty in the 79th minute.

Former Scotland Under-20 fly-half Allan contributed 22 points, including a try in each half, and also set up Matteo Minozzi to cross over.

Fraser Brown, John Barclay, Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg grabbed the tries for the Scots, who earned a try bonus point.

Gregor Townsend's men laboured throughout much of the game and made many errors in possession, but they battled back from 12 points down in the second half.

The result means that the Scots have matched their 2017 tally of three wins from five.

Meanwhile, the winless Azzurri are denied their first Six Nations victory since 2015 in Rome and also pick up the wooden spoon.
