2

The joint-second place teams in the Six Nations table met at Murrayfield this afternoon as Scotland entertained Wales.

After both lost their opening matches, the pair were looking to secure the win that would take them level at the head of the pile with England and still believe that they would have a chance of winning the title this year.

In a battle of penalties, Wales came out on top with the only try of the match.

Read how it all unfolded below.

Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live Six Nations coverage for the weekend.

Things are really hotting up in the competition, and this penultimate weekend could prove to be crucial going into the final matchday next week.

We start with Scotland and Wales. Both sides lost their opening match, both sides have recorded back-to-back wins since then, and both sides still believe that they can upset the odds and take the Six Nations crown from the grasp of England. This could prove to be some afternoon of rugby for us ladies and gentleman!

The Scots are looking to make history, by winning three games on the bounce in the Six Nations for the first time, although they will be up against a Welsh outfit who have won three of their last four trips to Murrayfield.

Less than 10 minutes to go!

Here are the Wales replacements...

WALES REPLACEMENTS: Owens, Andrews, Bevington, Coombs, Tipuric, Lloyd Williams, Hook, Scott Williams

And the Welsh side have just made their way out onto the field at Murrayfield.

The atmosphere at Murrayfield is fantastic, and here come the Scotland team!

Both teams are out; whoever wins will have a chance of claiming the Six Nations title. What a treat we should be in for this afternoon.

It's national anthem time, first up, Wales.

There are the bagpipes, here comes the Flower of Scotland!

Murrayfield just epitomises passion at the moment.

What brilliant anthems, now, we're moments away from the start.

What a roar from the crowd for the countdown. We're underway with Leigh Halfpenny kicking off.

Poor kick from Laidlaw, Wales have the first chance to attack deep inside the Scottish half from the left.

Wales drive forward to the 22 from the lineout, but a knock-on costs them, and it's now time for a scrum.

Early engagement from Scotland is punished. The Welsh opt for another scrum on the 22.

Same again, another scrum chosen by Wales. One more chance for Scotland, the next time it will be a penalty to the Welsh.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Wales dominate the scrum once again, and Leigh Halfpenny has the chance to get the first points of the day.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 0-3 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

No mistake from the Wales kicker, dead central, not far out, 3-0 Wales.

PENALTY TO SCOTLAND!

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 3-3 Wales (Greig Laidlaw)

What a fantastic penalty from Laidlaw. He is miles from the posts, but he just manages to clear the bar to level the score. What a great response from the hosts. Great game early on.

Halfpenny pinches a wonderful catch ahead of Stuart Hogg following the laters' kick and chase. These two have a real battle on their hands today.

A break in play as Hibbard gets the magic sponge treatment for Wales.

Wales win the ball from the lineout, and continue to control possession.

What a great kick into touch from Matt Scott for Scotland from the halfway line. Welsh lineout right on the 5m line.

PENALTY TO SCOTLAND!

Wales are caught offside, Laidlaw has the chance to put the hosts in front.

Two from two for Laidlaw, Scotland now lead the match for the first time.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Laidlaw tried to clear his lines for Scotland, but it comes off his own teammate to award Wales a penalty. Halfpenny steps up...

PENALTY MISSED!

He took his time about it, but Leigh Halfpenny's kicks floats wide of the left post. Scotland still lead. One from two for Halfpenny.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Another silly penalty conceded by Scotland, failed to get off the ball once making the tackle. Another chance from Halfpenny.

PENALTY MISSED!

Another poor effort from Halfpenny, who looks as if the wind is getting to him. That's one kick from three now for the Wales full-back, and another huge let off for the home side.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Wales have another penalty, this time it is offside against Scotland. Halfpenny to kick again.

PENALTY MISSED!

What on earth is happening to Leigh Halfpenny? He misses his third straight penalty kick as he watches this one bounce off the upright. One from four.

George North powers forward for Wales, and is brought down after dodging several challenges. Test for the Scottish defence.

TRY! Scotland 6-8 Wales (Richard Hibbard)

It's a first-ever international try for Richard Hibbard who caps off a crashing move down the right for Welsh, to push over at the line.

SUCCESSFUL CONVERSION! Scotland 6-10 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

No mistake from Halfpenny this time, as he makes it two from five and gives the Welsh a four-point lead.

Wales are awarded another penalty, which they put into touch in the Scotland half. Wales are dominant at the moment.

Scotland win a penalty from a scrum, and there are handbags between Jones and Grant. Long kick for Laidlaw, 41m to be precise.

Nervous about the result. Want to 'Cash in your Bet'. See how with William Hill.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 9-10 Wales (Greig Laidlaw)

Brilliant kick from Laidlaw, it's a long way out but he puts it perfectly between the posts to make it three out of three penalty kicks from Scotland. They have the momentum.

Duncan Weir pulls off a fabulous kick from the halfway line to put the ball into touch deep into the Wales half. The visitors are awarded the penalty from the lineout though. Richie Gray is down, and he is hurt. He is replaced by Alistair Kellock. Gray is still down on the field with what looks like a twisted knee.

Gray is being carried off on a stretcher, worrying times for him. He looks in some pain and is a real loss for the Scots.

The resulting penalty is put out of play for a Wales lineout in the Scotland half, but the ball is terrifically won by Kellock and we now have a scrum.

That Richie Gray injury by the way was one to his hamstring. We hope everything is okay for the Scot.

Just a point in this rather broken match so far with just seven minutes to go, how will things pan out for the remainder of this first half.

Absolutely wonderful play from Duncan Weir who breaks for Scotland and knocks the ball towards the try line, he forces a scrum on the edge of the Wales line which results in a penalty to the visitors and a chance to clear.

Wales are awarded a scrum in the middle of the field after the hosts collapse the maul. Mistakes are creeping back in to the Scot's game.

PENALTY TO SCOTLAND!

The referee this time awards a decision Scotland's way after Wales collapse a scrum. Laidlaw is lining up another massive kick.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 12-10 Wales (Greig Laidlaw)

It's four from four, it's another awesome kick from Laidlaw and the Scots are in front. His kick from what is near enough the halfway line, once again just has the legs on it to fly over the bar and through the posts.

Johnnie Beattie knocks on the restart so Wales have a dangerous scrum just inside the Scotland 22.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Jim Hamilton is offside as he makes contact with Halfpenny, the former knows he has made a mistake there. Halfpenny has an easy kick at the ready to give Wales a half-time lead with the last kick of the half.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 12-13 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

HALF TIME: Scotland 12-13 Wales

No mistake from Halfpenny who makes it three from six and gives Wales a justifiable half-time lead. After a frantic start the game levelled out a bit towards the middle of the half, before a mad ending and sequence of penalties at the end.

A lot of errors from Scotland, and Scott Johnson will be furious that his side have given away so many silly penalties.

Laidlaw has been fantastic by the way for the home side.

We're back underway at Murrayfield.

No changes at the break, as Scotland are awarded a penalty in the early stages of the half.

We have an update on the condition of Richie Gray, who was taken off as a precaution for the home side.

This kick is 42m out for Laidlaw. Surely not?

PENALTY MISSED!

It's four from five for Laidlaw now. The kick was just too far for the Scotland fly-half, and they still trail by a point.

PENALTY TO WALES!

The referee penalising Scotland, deeming them to be "sealing off" Wales runners. Halfpenny to surely score. Dead centre, 15 yards out.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 12-16 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

Check out the in-play odds with William Hill

Easy stuff for Halfpenny, who slots his kick right down the middle to give his side a four-point lead and capture his fourth kick from seven efforts.

Terrific drive forward from Scotland who are roared on by the crowd and win the penalty. It's a long way out again, but this is Laidlaw territory.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 15-16 Wales (Greig Laidlaw)

So long as Scotland have Laidlaw, they have a chance in this match. His kicking has been superb today, and he converts his fifth kick out of six.

Scotland are penalised for collapsing the Wales maul, they then win the ball from their own lineout before earning a penalty after Scotland collapsed the wall.

Interesting scenes as Dan Biggar looks to play the ball into touch which he does, and quickly. However, Halfpenny looked as if he fancied that for a conversion.

Cuthbert is taken down well by Lamont as Wales knock it on. Good Scottish defence.

26 minutes to go, just a point in it.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Scotland are penalised for collapsing the scrum once more. The referee wants a behaviour change and threatens Ross Ford with a yellow card. Scott Johnson will be livid that his side are conceding so many penalties. Leigh Halfpenny has a gift of a kick here.

Nervous about the result? Want to 'Cash in your bet'? See how with William Hill.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 15-19 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

Food and drink for Halfpenny. Five from eight for him. The four-point lead is restored once again.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Fantastic work by Sam Warburton who powers into the Scots and wins the penalty.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 15-22 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

Six from nine for Halfpenny. Wales have a seven-point lead now. Scotland have to target a try.

PENALTY TO SCOTLAND!

Wales are harshly penalised, chance for Laidlaw. It is penalty galore here.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 18-22 Wales (Greig Laidlaw)

Laidlaw makes no mistake from the kick, and his side have another penalty almost immediately from the restart after George North was deemed offside. Weir chose to take the kick and put it into touch in the far corner.

Acculmulator going well? Want to take your money now? Check out William Hill's 'CASH IN MY BET' service!

PENALTY TO SCOTLAND!

This is getting ridiculous now. Warburton goes into the tackle and is punished for not disappearing out of the ruck. Another chance for Laidlaw, who is currently on six from seven.

PENALTY MISSED!

Laidlaw puts his kick across the face of the posts, a rare miss from him. Saying that, you cannot really slate him for his performance so far in this match. If this game is not settled by a penalty then I will be shocked.

Wales are on the charge, really testing Scotland here. We're into the seventh phase.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Scotland penalised for offside in the end after brilliant ball retention from the Welsh. Chance for Halfpenny to restore their seven-point lead.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 18-25 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

It's a Six Nations record 12th penalty of the match! It's good from Halfpenny to make it 18-25 in his side's favour.

Great take from Halfpenny from the restart, Biggar kicks into space and eventually Scotland clear it.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Another chance for Leigh Halfpenny after Scotland were penalised in the scrum. He is going for it from 38m.

Surely this kick would win the match for Wales.

PENALTY SCORED! Scotland 18-28 Wales (Leigh Halfpenny)

Halfpenny has found his rhythm after a poor spell of kicking in the first half, he has scored eight of his 11 kicks today now. Wales are surely out of sight now with this 10-point lead.

A lot of work for Scotland to do now, and they have less than eight minutes to do it in.

Scotland going through the phases, going for the try.

Scotland are giving a penalty, and they knock it out of play for a lineout. They are going for it, and they are very close to the Wales try line.

Check out the in-play odds with William Hill

Adam Jones steals in for Wales! Brilliant play from him as the visitors can clear it for now.

Scotland have a lineout now, five yards from the Wales try line. Last chance for them.

Scotland are edging close and just one yard away. It's a key moment in this match now. Do or die time for the hosts.

SIN BIN! (Paul James)

James is penalised for holding on, as Scotland opt for the scrum and try to force a score late on. I think the time is up for the hosts though.

PENALTY TO WALES!

Wales win the penalty to essentially win the match. Sam Warburton picks up the man of the match award and rightly so. He has won three turnovers and made 13 tackles in this contest.

Wales have the linout, the possession and are now just waiting for the clock to tick.

The time is up.

Mass confusion in the stadium as the time official clock time is different to the one in the stadium. Either way, Wales have won.

Nervous about the result? Want to 'Cash in your bet'? See how with William Hill.

FULL TIME: Scotland 18-28 Wales

It's all over at Murrayfield, Scotland do not get their record third win in a row, and Wales have outdone their opponents after scoring the only try of the game.

They deserve it, in what was a very scrappy game. Wales now have a feint chance of winning the Six Nations, as they face leaders England next week.

That's it from me, tune in shortly for Sport Mole's live coverage of Ireland against France. See you shortly!
