Greg Laidlaw named as Scotland captain for first Autumn Test against Argentina

Scrum-half Greg Laidlaw will captain Scotland against Argentina after Grant Gilchrist was ruled out through injury.

Gloucester scrum-half Greg Laidlaw has been named as Scotland captain for the Autumn International against Argentina.

Laidlaw will take over from Grant Gilchrist, who will miss the autumn series after fracturing his arm while playing for Edinburgh, just four days after being told he was the new skipper.

Head coach Vern Cotter told reporters: "Obviously we're disappointed for Grant, who misses the opportunity to captain his country at home on this occasion. However, congratulations must now go to Greg who takes on that responsibility for Saturday's game.

"Greg offers us a bit of continuity, having captained the side on the summer tour. He's been playing well for Gloucester and I think he deserves his selection."

Scotland will also face New Zealand and Tonga this month.
