Details of the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony are revealed.

Rugby World Cup 2011 tournament organisers have revealed some details of the competition’s opening ceremony.

The event will be the first opportunity for fans to see new video projection technology and there will also be an appearance by a secret New Zealand sporting legend.

The ceremony will tell the story of New Zealand and the coming together of countries from around the world for the tournament.

"In one week’s time, the world will be watching us as the seventh Rugby World Cup gets underway," said tournament CEO Martin Snedden.

"It is the perfect double bill – a spectacular Opening Ceremony, the likes of which New Zealand sports fans will not have experienced in this country, coupled with two great Pacific nations kicking off rugby’s showpiece tournament."

The 30-minute ceremony will precede the All Blacks’ opening game against Tonga on Friday, September 9.
