Brian O'Driscoll becomes most-capped player in Test rugby history

Brian O'Driscoll makes appearance number 140 for Ireland to become the most-capped player in Test rugby history.

Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll has officially become the most-capped player in the history of Test rugby.

The 35-year-old took to the field against Italy to break George Gregan's 139-mark in his final home international appearance.

O'Driscoll also tops the Six Nations appearance list having represented Ireland 64 times, while holding the record for the number of tries scored for Ireland (46).

Speaking to reporters ahead of the clash at the Aviva Stadium this afternoon, Jamie Heaslip said of his teammate's achievements: "I'm sure it will be an emotional day for him and his family.

"He's given so much for Ireland and for his teammates, and I've been lucky enough to be his team-mate for the last eight years, so I feel extremely privileged to have been able to play so many games with him.

"But it's weird, there's no talk of it amongst the players. He's approaching it like any other game, and to be honest that's what you really expect from a man of his calibre. It might be a bit emotional for him, but he's been in a lot of games like this, where it's potentially his last game at home."

Ireland currently top the Six Nations' table.
