Jack McGrath hails "quality" Jonathan Sexton

Ireland prop Jack McGrath admits that Jonathan Sexton remains "really important" to Ireland's hopes of going all the way in this year's Rugby World Cup.

Jack McGrath has heaped praise on Jonathan Sexton after the Ireland fly-half produced an inspired display against Canada.

The 30-year-old bagged 14 points at the Millennium Stadium on his way becoming just the third player to surpass the 500-point mark for his country.

Sexton's performance saw him crowned as the sponsors' man of the match at the end of the convincing 50-7 triumph, which McGrath believes will provide the Leinster star with a further confidence boost.

"He was great. He is a quality player and really important for us," the prop told Sports Mole. "It will no doubt be a big confidence boost for him to get the award at the end."

Ireland now have eight days off before their next fixture, but McGrath is not concerned by the prolonged wait to build on this afternoon's opening-game win.

"I think it's a help," he added. "Obviously it will good to get a few days rest, particularly with a few sore bodies after that game. Canada are a big, bruising side, so I think those extra days will help."

Sexton, who has three British & Irish Lions caps to his name, made his Ireland debut back in 2009.
