Chris Ashton cut from England training squad for Rugby World Cup

Saracens winger Chris Ashton is among seven players to have been cut from England's training squad for the Rugby World Cup.

England play their first warm-up game ahead of the tournament on August 15 when they welcome France to Twickenham Stadium.

Bath duo Kyle Eastmond and Semesa Rokoduguni have also been sent back to their clubs, while Lee Dickson, Matt Kvesic, Matt Mullan and Marland Yarde miss out too.

"We had a great two-week camp in Denver where the entire squad worked extremely hard and were exceptional in the way they went about the training," coach Stuart Lancaster told EnglandRugby.com "That has continued this week and competition for places has been very intense.

"It has been difficult to narrow down the squad as everyone has contributed and given their all. But what I have said to those guys who are not coming back in on Sunday is that the door is not closed by any means. They are only an injury away and there is a lot of international rugby to be played this season, culminating in a three-Test tour to Australia."

Those left in the squad will now prepare for the warm-up matches and the Rugby World Cup at the team's Pennyhill Park training base.
