Sir Clive Woodward: England showed "bottle" to beat Australia

Woodward: England showed "bottle" to beat Australia

Sir Clive Woodward has said that England showed "bottle" to defeat Australia in their final match of the Autumn International series.

Stuart Lancaster's men secured a 26-17 victory over the Aussies at Twickenham as Ben Morgan scored two tries to guide his side to their second win of the series following their triumph over Samoa last week.

However, Woodward has warned the team and their coaching staff that they will need to raise their game for the Six Nations and the World Cup next year.

He told the Daily Mail: "England showed real bottle and character to beat Australia. It was a high-pressure game after a patchy autumn and regaining momentum to mount a successful World Cup campaign would have been very tough if they had lost.

"But win they did and now England are in pretty good shape. They all need to have a look in the mirror, though, especially the England coaches as they all seemed a little too pleased after the game - as if this was all part of some grand master plan. There is a mountain of work awaiting them."

England are next in action against Wales in their first Six Nations match on February 6.
