England, Australia announce historic three-match series for 2016

England will face Australia in a three-match series next June for the first time in the two nations' history.

England will take on Australia next year in a three-match series for the first time ever.

Despite their well-dated rivalry, going back some 100 years, the two heavyweight nations have never contested such a series before.

However, they will meet in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney next June in what will be a historic battle.

"With a rivalry that dates back to 1909, it is remarkable that Australia and England have never before played a three-match series and the history of this occasion is sure to add to the anticipation for the tour," Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver said.

"The process for determining the venues for the series was centred on providing the best fan experience. All three venues are rugby-friendly, offer a fantastic view of the action, and will generate a superb atmosphere with Wallabies fans and the touring English fans coming out in force."

England will also meet Australia in the Rugby World Cup later this year, with both sides being drawn in Pool A.
