Late rally moves Leeds Rhinos into Challenge Cup semis

Leeds Rhinos score twice in the final seven minutes to beat Championship side Leigh Centurions 25-12 at Headingley and progress to the last four of the Challenge Cup.

Leeds Rhinos scored twice in the final seven minutes to eventually beat Leigh Centurions 25-12 tonight in their Challenge Cup quarter-final at Headingley.

The match was level until the 73rd minute, but Robbie Ward and Zak Hardaker both crossed late on to ensure that the Super League outfit moved into the last four.

The Rhinos appeared as if they would run out easy winners when Ryan Hall's sixth-minute try was converted by Kevin Sinfield, but Championship side Leigh surprised the hosts to overturn their deficit.

Tom Armstrong and Tom Spencer both touched down before the halfway point in the first period, with Martyn Ridyard adding two points with the boot on each occasion as Leigh went 12-6 ahead.

Stevie Ward replied with a try on 31 minutes as Leeds regained parity, and the unfancied Centurions continued to hold their own until Robbie Ward broke free in the final stages to restore the Rhinos' early lead.

Another try from Hardaker five minutes later and contributions from the boot of Sinfield gave the scoreline a more emphatic look than the action reflected, but Leeds avoided a cup shock nonetheless.
