Leeds Rhinos 42-20 Wakefield Wildcats

Leeds Rhinos take a solid win in the opening round of the Super League playoffs, defeating Wakefield Wildcats 42-20.

Leeds Rhinos battled through a tough first half to take a good home win against Wakefield Wildcats in the Super League playoffs.

It took 13 minutes for the scoring to be opened and the first try went to Wakefield, with Ben Cockayne going over for the visitors. However, Paul Sykes could not convert and the lead was 4-0.

Leeds replied on 23 minutes, when Rob Burrow scored a try which was converted by Kevin Sinfield.

Wakefield went back ahead when Sykes converted a try from Lee Smith but Leeds edged ahead just before half-time as Burrow's second score was converted by Sinfield.

The sides continued to trade tries in the second half, with Richie Mathers's converted try putting the visitors 16-12 up, before Leeds went back to two ahead courtesy of Ben Jones-Bishop's try.

After this Leeds did not look back, with further tries from Danny McGuire and Zak Hardaker on 61 and 64 minutes ending the game as a contest.

Wakefield managed another try through Ali Lauitiiti, but Leeds were unforgiving. Jones-Bishop went over twice in quick succession on 71 and 74 minutes leaving Leeds 42-20 to the good.
