McDermott calls for Sinfield knighthood

Leeds Rhinos youth coach Barrie McDermott has called for Kevin Sinfield to be knighted before his career is over.

The England international's former teammate believes that Sinfield deserves an OBE or MBE in the Queen's New Year honours list, The Mirror reports.

"I'd love to see Kevin be rewarded with an OBE or MBE in the New Year honours list," he said.

"But he eventually deserves a knighthood because, in a year of sporting excellence with all our Olympic success, Kevin is up there with them all for his dedication, integrity and total commitment."

Sinfield has spent his entire professional career at Leeds, leading the club to 17 major finals in 10 years and breaking the record for most points scored for the Super League club.
