Richard Lee has no plans to retire Victory Gunner

Trainer Richard Lee says that he has no plans to retire veteran Victory Gunner, despite his failure to finish at Lingfield.

Trainer Richard Lee has no plans to retire Victory Gunner, despite the veteran failing to finish a race at Lingfield on Monday.

The 17-year-old pulled up after the fourth-last jump in the three-mile 888.sport.com Handicap Chase.

"He needed the rain that arrived at the track half an hour later," Sky Sports News quotes Lee as saying. "Although the ground was heavy, it was gluey ground and he can't handle that and never has done.

"He is absolutely fine and there are no plans to retire him as he loves the job. It was just one of those things - they are all allowed a bad run and he has not had many in his career."

Victory Gunner has competed in 83 races.
