Female jockey Christelle Zimmer dies after falling during race in France

Female jockey Christelle Zimmer has died after falling during a trotting race in France on Saturday.

Medical staff administered CPR on the 25-year-old after she suffered a heart attack on the track as a result of landing on her neck and back at the Chartres race track.

According to sport organisers LeTrot, Zimmer, who was flown by helicopter to Rouen hospital, also suffered cerebral haemorrhage.

The last trotting death occurred in 2001 after 16-year-old Yvonnick Brodin suffered a fall at Cabourg.
