Carlingford Lough out of Grand National

Carlingford Lough has been withdrawn from next month's Grand National.

The nine-year-old had been due to race at Aintree, but following his performance under Tony McCoy at last week's Cheltenham Gold Cup, it has been decided that the JP McManus-owned bay gelding is in need of a rest.

"[The Grand National] won't be happening. He's come back [from Cheltenham] fine. We agreed the ground probably wasn't ideal, but I'm not sure he would have been good enough anyway," said racing manager Frank Berry, according to Sky Sports News.

Berry went on to reveal that Carlingford Lough may now compete at the Punchestown Gold Cup in May.
