Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay agree on cities for joint World Cup bid

Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay's plans for a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup have moved a step closer after the countries agreed on which cities will be involved.

The Argentine Football Association has confirmed that it will be putting six unnamed cities forward, with the other nations nominating two each, Sky Sports News reports.

Bidding for the 2030 tournament does not officially open for another four years, but all three nations have backed the joint bid.

High-profile players including Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez - who play for Argentina and Uruguay at international level - have thrown their weight behind the bid.

Rival bidders for the 2030 World Cup are yet to emerge, but competition to stage the 48-team tournament is expected to be fierce.
