James Tomkins receives fine for police officer assault

James Tomkins is fined for assaulting a police officer during an incident outside a nightclub last December.

West Ham United defender James Tomkins has been fined £3,500 for assaulting a police officer.

The incident took place outside of the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood last December after the 25-year-old had been refused entry into the venue.

Tomkins pleaded guilty to all three of the charges that had been lobbied against him - assaulting a police constable, being drunk and disorderly in public and obstructing a police constable.

The chair of the bench at Southend Magistrates' Court, Martin Everett, told the centre-back: "This is a blot on your character."

He was also ordered to pay £3,785 in court costs, £200 compensation to the police constable and a £120 victim surcharge.
