Tomkins 'denies assaulting police officer'

West Ham United defender James Tomkins has denied assaulting a police officer outside of Essex nightclub Sugar Hut.

The 24-year-old has been hit with three charges following his arrest at the nightclub in Brentwood during the early hours of December 22.

According to the Daily Mail, Tomkins denied assault as well as a charge of resisting arrest and being drunk and disorderly while appearing at Basildon Magistrates' Court.

Tomkins was released on unconditional bail ahead of a trial on April 17.
