Prosecutors investigating the failed July coup in Turkey issue an arrest warrant for retired striker-turned-politician Hakan Sukur, according to reports.

Former Turkey international Hakan Sukur has been issued with an arrest warrant by prosecutors investigating the failed July coup in the country, according to reports.

A former MP for the ruling AK party, the 44-year-old has previously expressed support for Fethullah Gulen, the cleric blamed for the botched coup.

According to the BBC, searches were carried out at two houses in western Turkey, as officials said that Sukur faced charges of being a member of an "armed terrorist organisation".

The ex-Blackburn Rovers striker moved to the United States several months ago.
