Swindon Town deny Nile Ranger breached bail

Swindon Town deny reports that Nile Ranger has breached the terms of his bail.

Swindon Town have denied reports that striker Nile Ranger has breached the terms of his bail.

The former Newcastle United forward is believed to have been arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning for breaking terms imposed on him by a magistrate ahead of an upcoming rape trial.

Ranger was ordered not to enter a Northumbria police force area unless it is to meet with members of his legal team, but Swindon now have issued a statement insisting that he had permission to travel to the North-East to do just that.

"Following earlier media reports, Swindon Town can confirm that Nile Ranger has not been found to be in breach of any of his bail conditions," reads the club statement.

"Nile was given permission by the club to have time off yesterday and today to consult with his legal counsel up in Newcastle ahead of his upcoming court case.

"This consultation was due to resume today. He is expected to return to the Club tomorrow, as previously agreed. The club will not be making any further comment on this matter."

Ranger left Newcastle by mutual consent last March before signing for Swindon.
