Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon 'punished for speeding'

Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon is reportedly fined £60 and given three points on his driving licence after being caught speeding.

Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon has reportedly been hit with three points on his driving licence after being caught speeding.

The 29-year-old is believed to have been caught driving at 37mph in a 30mph zone on January 30 in East Boldon.

Sessegnon failed to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court yesterday, but instead sent in a letter, which is quoted by the Shields Gazette as saying: "I didn't realise my speed was over the limit until after. When I realised, I reduced it. Please accept that it was a genuine error."

The court also fined Sessegnon £60.
