Girl met Adam Johnson for "thank you kiss and more", court hears

A girl reveals that she met former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson for a "thank you kiss and more".

A girl has revealed that she met up with former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson for a "thank you kiss and more" after he signed football shirts for her, a court has heard.

Johnson, who has earned 12 England caps in his career, is on trial at Bradford Crown Court over allegations of sexual activity with a child.

Last week, the 28-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and a further count of grooming.

The footballer, who was sacked by the Black Cats four days ago, denies two other offences of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.

On day two of the trial the alleged victim's account, which she gave to police, was shown to the court via a video recording.

The girl, who is an avid Sunderland fan, told the authorities that at the time of the incident when she was 15 years old Johnson was her favourite player.

"I got a message from Sunderland player Adam Johnson who I'd idolised for quite a while," she said.

The girl claimed that she first met up with the footballer on January 17, 2015 and he signed two Sunderland shirts for her.

Following the first meeting, the pair exchanged messages and Johnson mentioned that he wanted a "thank you kiss" for penning his signature on the shirts.

"I was well up for it," the girl told police. "It was a surreal type of thing. I met up with him again. I gave him his thank you kiss and more."

On day one of the trial last week, Johnson arrived at court with his girlfriend Stacey Flounders, who is the mother of his daughter, but his partner was not by his side on Monday.
