Sunderland fans raise £2,000 to buy flowers for Dick Advocaat's wife

Sunderland fans donate over £2,000 to a fund to buy flowers for the wife of manager Dick Advocaat after she agreed to let him stay on at the club.

Sunderland fans have donated more than £2,000 to an appeal to buy flowers for the wife of manager Dick Advocaat.

The Dutchman initially decided to leave the club at the end of the 2014-15 campaign in order to spend more time with his spouse, but confirmed yesterday that he will be staying at the Stadium of Light after she agreed to let him continue in the role.

As a token of appreciation, fans set up a page called 'Mrs Advocaat's Flower Fund' to raise £150 to buy a bunch of flowers, but the idea has been so well supported that £2,129 had been pledged as of 1pm today.

The supporters who set up the page will split the additional money between the SAFC Foundation and a charity of Mrs Advocaat's choice.
