Mabbutt has "successful heart surgery"

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that their former captain Gary Mabbutt has undergone "successful heart surgery", and will now continue his recovery in hospital.

It was announced on Monday that the 55-year-old, who spent 16 years with Spurs and is now an ambassador for the London club, had been admitted to hospital after complaining of chest pains.

Tottenham have now provided an update on the situation, revealing that the operation was a success.

Mabbutt was part of Tottenham's 1984 UEFA Cup and 1991 FA Cup winning squads.
