Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo: 'Irina Shayk split is best for both of us'

Ronaldo: 'Irina split was mutual'

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the decision to end his relationship with model Irina Shayk was mutual.

The Russian's representatives confirmed at the weekend that the couple have parted ways following a five-year romance.

Rumours surfaced claiming that the split was down to Shayk's refusal to attend the 60th birthday party of Ronaldo's mother in Portugal.

However, those reports have been rejected by Shayk's camp, and now Ronaldo has spoken out to end speculation surrounding his private life.

"After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end," Ronaldo said in a statement to The AP.

"We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now. I wish Irina the greatest happiness."

The three-time Ballon d'Or winner has already been romantically linked to Real Madrid TV reporter Lucia Villalon.
