Madrid 'investigated over illegal aid'

Real Madrid are reportedly under investigation following allegations that they have received illegal state aid.

The European Commission are thought to be looking into accusations that the Spanish giants agreed a deal with Madrid City Council for land, which is due to be redeveloped into hotels and a shopping mall, around the Bernabeu stadium.

It is believed that the European Commission, led by Joaquin Almunia, has delayed their decision on the case, according to The Independent.

Reports have claimed that the club's ability to borrow money is dependent on the success of the complex, which is due to be built around the famous ground.
