Peter Ridsdale: Sir Tom Finney was "great man"

Peter Ridsdale believes that Sir Tom Finney touched the hearts of everyone in Preston, not just those involved with Preston North End.

Preston North End chairman Peter Ridsdale has said that it says a lot about the kind of person Sir Tom Finney was that so many people turned up to pay tribute to him at his funeral.

Ridsdale said that Finney, who will be buried today after a service at Preston Minster, was in the hearts of everyone in the community and not just those involved in football.

"What I think is wonderful is that so many people - not only from the game but also from the city - have turned out to say farewell," Ridsdale told BBC Sport. "This is a player that truly touched the hearts not just of football, but the whole community.

"The whole of Preston has almost come to a standstill in the two weeks since his death, and that is testament to what a great man he was."

Finney passed away earlier in the month at the age of 91.
