Panathinaikos players strike over unpaid wages

Players at Greek Superleague club Panathinaikos strike over unpaid wages dating back to last year.

Players at Greek Superleague club Panathinaikos have reportedly gone on strike over a wage dispute.

Members of the squad are said to be protesting over unpaid earnings which date back to last December.

The club has told BBC Sport that the unpaid wage bills will be settled by Thursday of this week, after which the players are expected to return to training.

Panathinaikos's Superleague clash with Atromitos this weekend is expected to go ahead as planned.

This is not the first time the 20-time Greek champions have been embroiled in a wage dispute.

Last week, the club was docked three points for failing to pay off their debts to German defender Jens Wemmer, who has since left the team to become a free agent.
