Ranger arrested on suspicion of rape

Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been arrested by police on suspicion of rape.

The 21-year-old will be questioned by the authorities after a woman made a complaint claiming that she had been sexually assaulted by a Newcastle player this week.

A Northumbria Police spokesman told ChronicleLive: "On Thursday, January 24, a woman reported to police that she had been raped overnight at a hotel in Jesmond. A 21-year-old man has been arrested at an address in Forest Hall on suspicion of rape."

The controversial forward was taken to Wallsend police station and will receive further questioning today.
