Jack Colback 'investigated over betting claims'

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is reportedly under investigation for an alleged breach of betting rules.

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is reportedly under investigation by the Football Association over an alleged breach of betting rules.

According to PA, the 26-year-old is accused of betting on the Champions League semi-final between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Although the game had no bearing to his club's plight to remain in the Premier League, no player or manager is permitted to bet on anything related to football anywhere in the world under rules introduced two years ago.

If found guilty of the offence, Colback is likely to be sanctioned with a significant fine but is not expected to receive a playing ban.

Colback's side will be relegated on Wednesday if his former team Sunderland claim victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light.
