New Zealand rugby star Frank Halai to miss Commonwealths due to passport blunder

New Zealand rugby star in passport blunder

Rugby star Frank Halai is ineligible to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after failing to switch to a New Zealand passport.

The 26-year-old was expected to represent the nation in the Sevens tournament in the Games this summer, but was left out of the training squad.

According to ESPN, local media have reported Halai did not change his Tongan passport in January, which means that he will not be able to compete in Scotland.

Halai earned his first and only All Blacks cap in November last year.
