Minnesota United in advanced talks to join MLS

MLS could expand to more than 24 teams, as Minnesota United are locked in "advanced discussions" with the league.

MLS is in "advanced discussions" over a new team in Minnesota, the league has confirmed.

A 25th team is set to be announced within the next few weeks, and it appears that Minnesota United could be in the driving seat.

MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement: "We are in advanced discussions with Bill McGuire and his partners in Minnesota to bring a Major League Soccer expansion club to the Twin Cities and are particularly excited about their plans for a new soccer-specific stadium that will serve as the club's home."

Minnesota United faces competition from teams in Sacremento and Las Vegas.
