Millwall fan charged with racism

A 53-year-old Millwall supporter has been charged by police with a racially aggravated public order offence following remarks made during a Championship clash with Leeds United.

Enfield resident Gerrard Scanlon was arrested following the emergence of TV footage filmed by Sky Sports News, showing fans racially abusing Leeds forward El Hadji Diouf during a match in November.

The authorities have confirmed that a charge has been made against Scanlon, who will appear in front of magistrates on February 27, according to the Sports news channel.

Millwall have pledged that fans guilty of such behaviour will be issued with bans.
