Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton is reportedly planning to propose to The X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger in the New Year.

The couple ended their five-year romance in June, with reports claiming that their hectic schedules put too much of a strain on their relationship.

However, it is believed that Hamilton, who is said to have rekindled his romance with the singer a month ago, will pop the question in California after Christmas, according to the Daily Star.

Despite the rumours, Scherzinger recently claimed that the pair are "just friends".
