Lewis Hamilton thanks fans for support following Nicole Scherzinger 'split'

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed gratitude towards his fans for their support during a "tough time" in his life.

The Mercedes driver's relationship with American popstar Nicole Scherzinger reportedly came to an end earlier this week.

The couple, who have been in an on-off romance for more than six years, are believed to have ended their union mutually due to the strain of living long-distance.

While Hamilton didn't specifically mention his relationship breakdown, the sportsman tweeted: "Hi everyone. I want to thank you all for the love & support during this tough time. It means the world to me. #TeamLH #bestfansintheworld."

The 30-year-old is preparing for the new F1 season, which gets underway in Australia next month.
