Wayne Rooney becomes target of death threats on Twitter?

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is reportedly the subject of death threats on social networking website Twitter.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly received death threats from Twitter users.

The 27-year-old is believed to be keen on leaving Old Trafford this summer, which has prompted two unsuccessful bids from Chelsea for the England international.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty over Rooney's future with the Premier League champions, the striker and his wife Coleen were sent threatening messages on the social networking website, according to the Daily Star.

While Rooney failed to feature once for United during pre-season, the forward could feature for England in Wednesday's friendly against Scotland.
