La Liga prosecutors are reportedly pushing for Man United midfielder Ander Herrera and 35 other footballers to serve four-year jail terms if found guilty of match-fixing.

La Liga prosecutors are reportedly pushing for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and other footballers to be jailed for four years over alleged match-fixing.

The 28-year-old has denied any wrongdoing after being implicated alongside 35 footballers in an investigation into corruption, relating to a La Liga match between Real Zaragoza and Levante in May 2011.

According to Las Provincias, La Liga prosecutors are demanding in their indictment presented to Valencia's Court of Instruction Number Eight that if found guilty, the footballers involved should be hit with a four-year prison sentence.

State prosecutors believe that a two-year term and six-year ban from professional football would be sufficient, but under Spanish law, a sentence of less than 24 months can be suspended, meaning that it is unlikely that Herrera would spend any time behind bars.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Zaragoza and featured for the senior team between 2009 and 2011.
