A number of Premier League footballers have jumped to the defence of Manchester United teenager Adnan Januzaj after he was criticised for taking a girl to Nando's on a date.
The female student told a national newspaper that the 18-year-old, who is said to earn £30,000 per week at Old Trafford, took her to the budget chicken restaurant after she paid for parking.
After the story was published, Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon, Tottenham Hotspur's Andros Townsend and Norwich City midfielder Bradley Johnson decided to defend the youngster.
Puncheon wrote on Instagram: "januzaj keeping it real...got time for this guy...what makes these people think he has to spend big cos he's got it!!"
Andros Townsend posted a message on Twitter saying: "Nandos was too classy for her! I would of bought her a freddo and sent her packing!!"
Johnson also had his say by tweeting: "Sums up what type of girl she is, to go to papers an sell a story!! She deserves a Dixy 99p chicken an chips for that!! #golddigger."
Nando's decided to tease Januzaj after the story was published by offering the player a £50 voucher.
