Bomb disposal team called to Old Trafford

A senior police officer claims that the "army bomb disposal team" have been called to investigate a 'suspicious package' at Old Trafford.

A senior police officer has claimed that the "army bomb disposal team" have been called to investigate a 'suspicious package' which forced Manchester United's Premier League clash with Bournemouth to be abandoned.

Old Trafford was due to host its final Premier League match of the season as Man United went in search of a top-four place at home to Bournemouth.

However, the clash was called off when it became clear that "a suspect package in the NW Quadrant of the ground" had been found, which is seemingly related to a mobile phone device.

"The army bomb disposal team has been called and they will have to search the entire ground. The current threat level of terrorism remains 'severe' so we would not take any chances. It would take too long to deal with the incident which is why the game had to be abandoned," Manchester Evening News quotes a senior police offer as saying.

Man United's players are reportedly still inside the stadium in a secure location.
